The Korean Government Scholarship Program KGSP for the batch of 2023 to 2024 has been initiated. The program is initiated and covered by the Korean Government to promote the image of South Korea as an educationally rich state. The Korean Government Scholarship Program will provide international students an opportunity to undertake their higher education at the Korean universities of their choice.

What is the Global Korean Scholarship Program?

The Global Korean Scholarship Program is an initiative taken by the Korean Government. The program offers scholarships to international students for enabling them to undertake studies at top Korean institutes and different subject areas. This comes under the vision of the Korean Government to promote the education system of South Korea worldwide. It also aims to widen the scope of the Korean economy by increasing international participation. The program would help the Korean Government foster friendly relationships with other countries.

Degree Levels Under the Korean Government Scholarship Program

The Korean Government Scholarship Program is offered to students undertaking undergraduate, graduate, or PhD studies in Korean universities. The scholarships do not impose any restrictions on the selected subjects. The students are at liberty to choose the subjects of their choice.

English Language Requirements Defined or KGSP Scholarship

The Korean Government Scholarship Program doesn’t require applicants to submit an English Language Proficiency Test for eligibility. The medium of instruction at the universities would be English. The applicants must be able to understand the course language. This will require a certain level of English language understanding. However, unlike other scholarship programs, the submission of an English Language Proficiency Test isn’t mandatory.

KGSP Scholarship Sponsorship Coverage

The KGSP scholarships offered by the South Korean Government are highly Funded Academic grant that bring numerous benefits to the its international students. The students will be paid monthly stipend during their course of education at Korean University. The KGSP scholarship program will cover the airfare of the selected students. The number of times they can visit their homes will be decided at a later date.

Relocation is a highly complicated process for students owing to financial difficulties. Therefore, the KGSP program offers a relocation or resettlement allowance of 200,000 KRW to the awardees. The students will also be provided a living allowance of 20,000 KRW which will help them cover their monthly or daily expenditures. The students will be required to take a Korean Language Course during their degree program. The duration of the course will be one year. The Korean Government will provide 800,000 KRW every three months to cover the expenses for the Korean Language Course.

A large chunk of the funding of KGSP Scholarship award would head toward the tuition fee. The students will be given a maximum of 5, 000,000  KRW per semester to cover their tuition fees. Additional awards may be given owing to a good performance in the Korean Language Course. Grants will also be provided for students to undertake research projects. This will be mainly directed toward PhD students. They will receive 240,000 per semester for research projects. Printing expenses for dissertations and thesis will also be covered. Grants between 500,000-800,000 KRW will be given to students for this purpose. Upon degree completion, the awardees will be given an award of 100,000 KRW.

Eligibility Criteria Defined for KGSP Scholarship 

The Korean Government Scholarship Program requires students to meet different requirements. The students will be required to provide proof that they reside in a country other than Korea. The parents of the applicant must also be born outside Korea. They also must not have Korean citizenship. Demonstration of physical and mental health will be required from the applicants to be eligible for the scholarship scheme.

The undergraduate applicants must be below 25 years of age bracket. The age limit for graduate students is set at 40 years. The undergraduate applicants are required to have completed their basic primary, middle school, and high school education before applying for the scholarship program or the start of the undergraduate program. The graduate students are required to provide proof of the completion of their Undergrad or postgrad degree for eligibility.

The academic requirement for the scholarship is a minimum CGPA of 80%.  The CGPA must be obtained from their previous degree program or educational level. The applicant must not have any enrollment history at any Korean institution before applying for the scholarship program. The students having a 90% result after being awarded the Korean Government Scholarship Program are eligible to apply for the scholarship again through the Embassy or University Track.
